About Us

About Us - about usLocal artist Melissa Henry has been designing and creating original door art in her home-based studio for years. It all started with a birthday cake and an Easter egg for her kids, and a way to welcome her evacuated neighbors and friends back to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Demand for her door art began to expand rapidly as locals saw her designs gracing the doors of many elegant homes around New Orleans. Melissa's hobby developed into such a flourishing business that she is now represented in cities throughout the southeast.

Whether it is a festive king cake during Mardi Gras or a saxophone for Jazz Fest, all of Melissa’s Show Me the Door pieces are one-of-a-kind objects of art inspired by events, holidays, alma maters, and party themes for such events as Mardi Gras, Easter, baby showers, the seasons, birthday parties, and local sports teams. Her creations speak for themselves. As fast as she crafts and paints them, they “walk out of her studio”. Passersby even purchase them off the front door of her home! And, customers are begging her for more!

More recently, the creative pieces of Show Me the Door now grace the doors of homes in the Washington D.C. capitol area. Relocated residents want to bring the local flavor of New Orleans decorations to their “homes away from home”.
